Lindsay Lohan lost her fingertip in a boating accident.

The 30-year-old actress was attempting to anchor a boat in Turkey when the accident took place.

US site TMZ reported that Lohan’s fingertip was sliced off after she attempted to pull up the anchor and became entangled.

Her friends found the portion of finger and she was rushed to hospital where she underwent reconstructive surgery to reattach the tip.

Lohan posted a Snapchat video of her heavily bandaged finger and told fans: “This is the result of me trying to help anchor the boat by myself. My poor finger.”

She later posted: “I almost lost my finger from the anchor. Well, I lost half my finger, thank goodness we found the piece of my finger… I just had surgery to fix it… it hurts so bad.”

The Parent Trap actress showed fans she was making a good recovery by posting a one handed selfie.

She also referenced Mean Girls - the film in which she played home schooled Cady Heron - as she made a joke about today being October 3rd.

The accident comes days after Lohan went on an humanitarian mission to show support for refugees fleeing Syria.

She visited an Istanbul hospital as well as the Hussiens, a family of Syrian refugees.

The actress posted about her experiences on Instagram and explained what she had learned from her visit to fans.

Alongside a picture of a young girl named Heya she posted: "I can't forget Heya whom I met during my visit to the Hussein family. She couldn't care less about our gifts to her, whose mother has gone. She held me more and more tight when she sat on my lap. I sniffed her hair, took her hands and held her tight.

"I understood at that moment once again that we can do more for each other, that we should do more for each other.

"And we can start by giving support to #Turkey which did its part in this huge human tragedy called Syria by welcoming 3 million refugees.

"We should do more, starting today... #RefugeesWelcome #MassacreinAleppo #theworldisbiggerthan5 #love not #ignorancekills
