Little Mix star Jesy Nelson celebrated her birthday in style as the Capital Breakfast team surprised her with a Chris Hughes cake.

The singer, who turned 28 today, was shocked as presenters Ronan Kemp and Vic Hope brought two cakes - including one which featured a photo of Nelson’s boyfriend - and a special gift into the Capital studio.

“Jesy, you might have thought that we forgot,” Kemp laughed as Nelson admitted that she had been a little disgruntled at the hosts’ omission.

“I mean, I’m not gonna lie, I was sitting here thinking ‘Excuse me!’” she said.

“We have not forgotten - happy birthday to Jesy!” Kemp said as the singer struggled to contain her excitement while showing off her new present, a personalised phone case.

“This is amazing, thank you so much,” she said, adding: ““I love it, this is the best day ever.

“No one buys anything any more, because they’re like ‘You’ve got everything, you don’t need anything!’ so this is so lovely, thank you.”

“We’ve got a lovely picture of you and Chris on a cake,” Kemp pointed out for listeners.

Nelson later posted a photo of the special cake on her Instagram Stories.

Hughes, who was first linked to the musician back in January, shared a birthday tribute to his girlfriend on Instagram, describing her as “the most caring person.”

Posting a string of sweet photos of the couple, he wrote: “Happy birthday to a best friend, my better half and the most caring person I could have wished to meet.

“Every day is better now. The fact I love you when I’m hungry says it all. The core to my [apple emoji]... have the best day and keep on shining, you deserve the world.”

Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp airs weekdays from 6am to 10am.
