Liza Minnelli has denied claims she branded David Gest an "a******" just days after he died.

A spokesperson for Minnelli, 70, said the actress had not addressed Gest’s death and said the comments made by journalist Cindy Adams were "misleading".

Writing in a New York Post column, Adams claimed that Minnelli had called her ex-husband an “a******”and said the pair did not speak.

She wrote that Minnelli's “marriage to Gest lasted no longer than a colonoscopy. He really was just a gest”.

Adams continued: “Obits always say the person was wonderful. This guy was unwonderful. While he was breathing she wouldn't even speak to him. Now that he's not breathing she wouldn't even speak about him.

“My friend Liza told me: 'He's an a******'.”

Addressing the claims a spokesperson for Minnelli said: “Liza Minnelli has not addressed Mr Gest's passing and any suggestion that she has done so following his death is misleading.”

Gest died, aged 62, in his suite at the Four Seasons hotel in London on April 12.

The American music producer married Minnelli in 2002. They divorced five years later in 2007.
