Long-term rentals
Holiday cottages abound along the coast of the Hampshire/Dorset borders, but finding a house to rent for longer than a two-week break is much more difficult. It is worth contacting local landowners who often prefer to let vacant farmhouses to long-term renters rather than holidaymakers.
On the Isle of Purbeck, the National Trust is looking for tenants for Manor Farmhouse, which it is offering on a three-year assured shorthold tenancy at a guide rental of £10,000 a year. This four-bedroom Purbeck-stone house is in the centre of the pretty coastal village of Studland, about 500m from the beach and open country. The property requires refurbishment but much of this work will be carried out by the National Trust. The trust is looking for tenants who will use the house as their main residence. There is also a three-bedroom semi-detached 1950s house in the quiet quarryman's village of Langton Matravers, near Swanage, Dorset, for rent at £695 a month, through Booth and Corben (01929 551661).
In Lymington, Hampshire, John D Wood (01590 677233) has two rental properties: a newly refurbished threebedroom cottage at Bucklers Hard, overlooking the Beaulieu River for £231 a month; the other is a three-bedroom town house in Lymington on the south side of the High Street between Berton Marina and Town Quay, for £254 a week.
