Lorraine Kelly has revealed she didn’t feel comfortable with how she looked on TV until she turned 50.

Kelly – who has been on our screens for over 30 years – said she never felt her best because of her ‘unflattering’ hair and clothing.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping she said: “It’s only been since I turned 50 that I’ve felt really comfortable on TV, and that’s because I’m getting help. During the GMTV days, I would pick Rosie [her daughter] up from lessons and do a raid on the Marks & Spencer and Monsoon beside the school.

“I just grabbed anything I could – it didn’t matter whether it suited me. For me, it was all about getting my job right – what I looked like was way down the pecking order.”

The breakfast TV favourite said she has finally found the right body shape for herself after dropping from a size 16 to a size 10.

Kelly – who isn’t a fan of yo-yo dieting – said: “At my heaviest, I was a good size 16. Now I am a size 10 and I’ve lost well over a stone and a half.

“Last Summer I was wearing sleeveless tops and dresses on my TV show. I would never have done that in my 20s, 30s or 40s. I am 57! It’s crazy! It shows that you can do it at any age.”

Kelly said she doesn’t fear getting older because she believes she has good genes – and a bit of good luck on her side.

“I genuinely don’t think about [ageing], and that’s due to a mixture of genes and good luck,” she said. “I don’t think I look like I’m three years off 60.

“I don’t feel it. If you’ve got a good attitude to life and enjoy it, that makes you younger.”
