Marc Jacobs admits he was trying to 'flirt' with follower before accidentally posting nude selfie on Instagram

Marc Jacobs has spoken out after accidentally posting a nude selfie on Instagram, admitting that he meant to send it privately to someone he was 'flirting' with.

The world renowned fashion designer, who quickly deleted the snap soon after posting it on Wednesday, apologised to anyone who was 'offended' but claimed that it wasn't a 'big deal.'

He wrote: "Yeah. I accidentally posted a pic of my bare ass and took it down.

"I was flirting with someone I met on Instagram. Meant to send it by DM. Oops, my mistake. I apologise to anyone it offended. I'm a gay man. I flirt and chat with guys online sometimes. BIG DEAL!”

The photo, which was only live on the social networking site for a few minutes, was captioned: "It's yours to try!"

Jacobs, 52, has been posting a series of shots from his new campaign on Instagram over the last few days, ironically describing them as 'leaks'.

He captioned one shot of Winona Ryder: "Another fantastic portrait of Winona Ryder by David Sims. I love her wit, energy and besides being a great talent, she is a great friend!"

Another snap, of director Sofia Coppola says: "This next photo I am "leaking" is (along with Chers portrait) one of my very favorites from this "album" photographed by David Sims of our Fall/Winter collections.

"I met Sofia Coppola just after I showed my now "credited" (by some!) GRUNGE collection for Perry Ellis in 1992. Sofia was one of the few who recognized something special and related to what I was doing at that time."

The final one is of model and actress Emily Ratajkowski, under the caption: "Sometimes I step outside of what I know, I am curious and excited about meeting someone that wasn't on my radar.

"I lucked out the day Katie Grand introduced me to the sweet, friendly, energetic and talented (oh, did I mention sexy in that I TOTALLY GET IT sexy way)....Emily Ratajkowski."
