The man accused of “stalking” Colin Firth's wife Livia Giuggioi after a brief relationship with her has claimed he received a “sympathetic” email from the actor.

Reports claim that the King’s Speech star emailed Marco Brancaccia in the wake of the reveal, saying: “You have made me suffer but I know you are suffering too.”

According to The Sun, Mr Brancaccia sent details of his alleged affair with Ms Giuggioi and received a reply from the actor.

The publication quotes him as speaking from his Brazilian home, detailing: “I was angry and upset. I sent an email to Colin and it had a picture of Livia.

“I wanted him to know what happened. I had a reply which was very understanding.

“Then police are at my house and they’ve taken my computer and phone.”

Giuggioli claimed that her former flame had begun sending her threatening texts and calls after she reconciled with the British actor.

A spokesperson for the couple said: “A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited.

“Subsequently, Mr. Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented. As a consequence of his stalking, threats and refusal to desist, the legal complaint was lodged with the Italian authorities.

“The reporting this week on this case is understood to be the consequence of a leaked court document. This is greatly to be regretted. It does not serve the interests of any of the parties involved.”
