Megan Barton Hanson has denied kidnapping the hamster she shares with ex-boyfriend Wes Nelson as she revealed she misses the “chubby” creature.

Barton Hanson revealed she had split from her Love Island beau Nelson last weekend, using their statement to ensure fans they would “continue to co-parent their hamster”, affectionately named Jon Snow.

Rumours emerged on Tuesday that the 24-year-old had abducted their furry 'child' but she was quick to break her silence on the claims with a sweet Instagram video of the hamster.

Alongside a video of the black hamster nibbling away at something and chilling in his cage, Barton Hanson wrote: “Missing my baby, look at that chubby face!”.

The couple’s statement parodied Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s famous “conscious uncoupling” message, substituting the parts about their kids for references to the cute critter.

In turn, they said that they were “parents first and foremost to one incredibly wonderful hamster,” and asked “for his and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”

While Barton Hanson went on to post a separate heartfelt statement about ending their seven-month relationship, later admitting that her “whole world was crumbling”, Nelson appeared to make light of the situation with a series of hamster-related memes .

The 20-year-old, who originally fell for Laura Anderson in the villa, shared a selection of posts from fans including one of a sad-looking hamster with a joke about it “realising it’s from a broken home”.

He re-posted the meme with the caption: “You guys are so f****** quick” and a series of crying with laughter emojis.

Nelson is currently competing on Dancing On Ice, consistently impressing with partner Vanessa Bauer. His former flame was in the audience to support him last weekend despite their break-up .
