Michael Fassbender and Jimmy Fallon battled it out in an epic air-guitar battle.

The Assassin's Creed actor joined chat show host Fallon on The Tonight Show for the popular skit.

Fallon kicked off the competition with Thin Lizzy's The Boys Are Back in Town and asked for the amp to be turned up as he got into the 1976 classic.

But he looked nervous as Fassbender got everyone aboard the Crazy Train as he rocked out to Ozzy Osbourne’s famous hit.

Getting into character, Fassbender pretended to put on his instrument before switching from ‘bass’ to ‘guitar’ halfway through.

“I forgot that I’m so mad,” said Fallon.

Accepting defeat, Fallon added: “Well, you beat me, clearly, but for this last round how about an air guitar duet?”

Fassbender accepted the invitation and they both ‘tuned’ their air banjos – with the Prometheus actor joking that his instrument had “been in the family for generations”.

The duo received huge cheers from the audience who clapped along to their catchy instrumental.

Fassbender was on the show to promote his latest film, Assassin's Creed, and told Fallon about how he had set up a game of paintball where they were filming in the Spanish town of Almeria.

The location, in the Tabernas Desert, was famous for playing host to westerns such as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Fassbender said: "I thought as a treat I'd book the town and have a paintball shootout. We used the saloon as HQ. They have real alcohol in there. Booze and paintballing, probably not a good idea."

Speaking about being shot at point-blank range he said: "I had [what looked like] hickeys all the way up my neck and I was bleeding from the forehead. I just saw white."
