Miranda Kerr has spoken of her separation from Orlando Bloom, claiming that they still “love and care for each other deeply”.

The Australian supermodel, who recently stopped working for Victoria’s Secret and is now the face of Swarovski jewellery, said the couple are determined to remain friendly and support each other for the sake of their two-year-old son, Flynn.

Kerr, 30, and actor Bloom, 36, announced their split earlier this year after three years of marriage.

She said that they have so much respect for each other that she recently cancelled a trip home to Australia to avoid Bloom having to be apart from their son.

“We still love and care for each other deeply. I didn’t go home to Australia recently because Orlando was working six days a week in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway and it’s not fair to take Flynn and go without him. We’re trying to do our best to support each other.

“It’s difficult for anyone to go through separation, whether it’s on a public scale or not. It was important for us to preserve our friendship and the dynamic of being loving parents to Flynn so we dealt with everything honestly,” she told the Daily Mirror.

The former couple are thought to be spending Christmas Day together with Flynn at Kerr’s house in New York.

Kerr, whose estimated annual earnings of more than £5million make her the world’s second-highest-paid model after Giselle Bündchen, said the key to happiness and confidence is positive thinking and that if she is feeling down she will either “take everything off and put on my Stella McCartney silk robe” or “jump for joy”.

She added: “Literally. After a minute I feel better and after a few minutes I’m really happy. Everything else just drops off. It gets me out of my head and into my body and it makes me feel present.”

She said having a child had changed her life. She said: “Flynn says, ‘Mummy works and daddy plays’, because daddy was in a play, so that makes sense. He’s such a cutie. Having my son has been the best thing that has happened to me. Now I like to wear comfortable clothes and flats to be able to run around with him.”
