Morrissey brands halal meat 'evil' as he claims animals suffer 'abhorrent' racism

Morrissey has attacked halal meat production, slamming the practice as “evil” and claiming animal rights must come before religion.

The former Smiths frontman launched a tirade on the Islamic method of slaughter, which involves live animals having their throats cut and their blood drained, claiming it requires approval from “supporters of ISIS”.

He said: “If you have any concern for animal welfare, for example, you cannot possibly vote for either Conservatives or Labour, because both parties support halal slaughter, which, as we all know, is evil.

“Furthermore, halal slaughter requires certification that can only be given by supporters of ISIS, and yet in England we have halal meat served in hospitals and schools!”

Some animals killed for halal meat in the UK are stunned electrically before having their throats slit. The method can only be carried out by a Muslim who has been certified by the Food Standards Agency.

The animal rights activist also slammed Prime Minister Theresa May for referring to Islamic holiday Eid al-Adhar as “joyous” as “millions of animals had their throats slit to mark the occasion”.

The singer also claimed animals fall victim to racism, saying if they “spoke English then no one would eat them”.

He said: “Racism is at its most abhorrent in relation to eating animals. If you eat animals, isn’t it a display of hatred for a certain species? And what gives you the right to eat another species or race? Would you eat people from Sri Lanka?”

Morrissey said he has thrown his support behind new political far-right party For Britain as they have the “best approach to animal welfare”.

He said: “If you love animals, you really cannot vote Labour or Conservative. Give animals a break. They’ve done enough for you. Let them live.”
