Morrissey has announced that he will publish his debut novel next month.

Announcing the news on his fanzine True to You over the weekend, the former Smiths frontman revealed that List of Love will be published by Penguin.

A statement on the site read: “Morrissey’s first novel, List of the Lost, will be published by Penguin Books (UK) at the end of September.

“The book will be issued in softcover/paperback as a New Fiction title, and comes almost two years after Morrissey’s very successful Autobiography publication of October 2013.

“Penguin Books will confirm an on sale date within this coming week. List of the Lost will be available in the UK, Ireland, Australia, India, New Zealand and South Africa.”

The fictional tome comes just two years after the music icon released his eagerly-anticipated autobiography, which became a bestseller in the UK.

Published as a Penguin Classic, Autobiography set a new first week sales record for a music autobiography.

In a rare in-depth interview with Larry King last week, Morrissey opened up about his recent health scare, his political opinions and his alleged assault at a US airport

Speaking about his cancer diagnosis, he told King that he is "OK".

"Cancer was found, yes," he said. "I had Barrett's, which is the oesophagus. They scrape it occasionally and I have medication.

“But I'm OK. Lots of people have it and they fade away. Some other people have it and they don't fade away."
