Niall Horan tried – and failed – to tattoo the name of his new single on Roman Kemp’s leg in aid of a charity.

The popstar, 26, dropped his new single, Nice to Meet Ya, today - six months since his last single was released.

As part of a fundraising drive for Global’s Make Some Noise, last week Horan told Capital Breakfast presenter Roman Kemp he would donate £5,000 towards the charity if Kemp let him tattoo “Nice to Meet Ya” on to his leg.

But the singer – who is the only former member of One Direction to not have any tattoos and has never used a tattoo gun before – ended up writing “Nice to Melt Ya” by accident instead.

The stunt comes two years after Ed Sheeran tattooed “Ed Woz Ere 2k7” on Kemp’s left ankle.

Footage of the latest inking shows both of the men dread the task but plough through regardless.

In the video, Kemp says: “I thought this was a joke. He just asked where the needle was, so that’s really worried me.”

Later on, Horan says: “I don’t know how they [tattoo artists] do this on a regular basis, it’s scary.”

Kemp asks: “What’s scaring you about it?” to which Horan replies: “The fact that it’s on your skin until the day you die and probably for about 15 years after while you rot.”

When he finishes, Horan says: “I’m done and I did a terrible job,” and Kemp adds: “Oh my god, it look like it says ‘Nice to Melt You.’ You’ve written ‘Nice to Melt You’ on my leg! “You’re calling my mum. What the f*** is that?”

Horan has also set a fundraising challenge for Kemp, which is to travel 1000 miles around the UK and present five breakfast shows in five days without money or the help of his phone.

On Monday, Kemp will travel from Scotland to Wales and then eventually back to London in time for Global’s Make Some Noise Day on Friday, October 11.

As part of the task the presenter will complete challenges which will be revealed on a daily basis.
