Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth were wrapped up against the weather as they started work on their latest film.

The pair were spotted on set in Bo'ness, Falkirk, where they are filming scenes for The Railway Man.

The film, based on the book of the same name, tells the true story of Scottish soldier Eric Lomax who was held captive and tortured by the Japanese during the Second World War.

Lomax, played by Firth, was one of the prisoners of war put to work on the Burma railway by the Japanese. His book tells how he tracked down one of his captors after the war and forgave him.

Kidman, who plays Lomax's wife, said she was looking forward to staying in Edinburgh while filming in Scotland.

Speaking at a press conference before filming started, she said: "One of the great things about being an actor is that you get to live in a city for a certain amount of time.

"You really get to know it, and you don't feel like you're just visiting, so that's what I look forward to doing. I hope there's some good restaurants, I'll be out and about."
