Nile Rodgers left Brit Award viewers in knots after he made an epic gaffe while handing out the award for British Female Artist.

The American record producer made an awkward slip-up after he introduced the award category as “bread female artist” instead of “best female artist”.

Rodgers did recover quickly as he jumped back to correct himself, laughing at his error.

But the gaffe didn’t go unnoticed by social media users who were left “howling.”

One user wrote: "The award for the bread? That would be the caterers."

Another added: “God! Nile Rodgers needs to rehearse next time.”

A third mocked: "AND THE AWARD FOR THE BREAD. I’M HOWLING."

Meanwhile, others mocked Rodgers over his lack of professionalism with some hailing him the “most awkward man.”

One user slammed: “F**** hell Nile Rogers is the most awkward man on the planet.”

Another added: “Nile had no idea where he was did he?”

Jorja Smith took home the British Female gong, beating out the likes of Florence & The Machine, Anne-Marie and Jess Glynne for the gong.

Smith nominated the award to “girls and women”, admitting she “didn’t expect” to win.

She is also nominated for British Album and British Breakthrough Act.

During last year’s ceremony Smith bagged the coveted Critics’ Choice award.
