Noel Edmonds has defended his claim that negative energy can cause cancer, saying people are ‘dying of ignorance’.

Edmonds, 67, appeared on This Morning to clarify himself after he told cancer sufferer Vaun Earl to use a £2000 EMPpad to ‘tackle’ his cancer - which Edmonds claimed could have been caused by a ‘negative attitude’.

The TV presenter tweeted: “Scientific fact-disease is caused by negative energy. Is it possible your ill health is caused by your negative attitude? #explore.”

Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Edmonds – who was accused by Earl of ‘quackery’ and being patronising – said: “On November 29, 2013 I was diagnosed with cancer. I had no symptoms. I had some tests and it confirmed I had prostate cancer.

“I know why I got cancer because I went through a very stressful negative experience. Stress is negative energy. I’m absolutely certain that it didn’t just decide to manifest itself. I don’t believe that what you say triggers it, I believe it is outside forces that trigger it.”

The Deal or No Deal host pleaded with viewers to refrain from always accepting ‘convention’ and told them to question the possibilities of alternative treatments.

“All I did was ask a question,” he said of his tweet. “Find out as much information if you get a diagnosis like mine [and] don’t accept convention, necessarily, and hopefully you will get the right result.”

He continued: “We don’t understand energy – the medical profession cant even define health – don’t do what my father did and die of ignorance. I believe pulse electromagnetism has a role to play in tackling cancer.”

Edmonds - who appeared to avoid Willoughby's question on whether he thinks childhood cancers are a result of 'negative energy' - faced a backlash on Twitter with one deeming the interview "uncomfortable" while others called for him to stop talking.

EMPpad Limited, which was founded by two osteopaths three years ago, said it does not share Edmond’s views.

The company said in a statement: “The opinions of Mr Noel Edmonds are his alone and do not reflect in any way with the opinions of us at EMPpad. We had no discussion, input or prior knowledge of the content of Mr Edmond’s statement and we do not agree with it in any way, shape or form.”
