Noel Gallagher has backed Elton John in his fight against ‘disgraceful’ ticket touts.

The former Oasis frontman has said that fans paying over the odds on secondary ticket sites is a ‘terrible thing’.

Calling for the government to step in and ‘sort it out’ the rocker, told Radio 5 Live:

“I’m with Elton. People shouldn’t really pay over the odds, but they do.

“You get forged tickets on those things (websites) as well. It’s a terrible thing… You need the government to sort it out.”

Gallagher’s comments come after John insisted that he’d rather play to ‘empty seats’ than his fans pay too much to see him.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I'd rather have empty seats. I think it's extortionate and I think it's disgraceful.

“The fact they're willing to pay that [amount] is fantastic. But I'd rather they'd save their money and not come."

A number of artists including Radiohead, Blur and Coldplay have signed an open letter after the government announced that they would be launching a review of the sites.

The letter reads: “Tens of thousands of fans have been ripped off by people who exploit fair ticket prices via so-called ticket marketplaces.”
