A music fan has proved why you should never trust Wikipedia after he tweaked a band’s page to blag himself backstage access at a gig.

David Spargo managed to meet dance duo Peking Duk at their gig in Melbourne, Australia after he edited their Wikipedia page to list himself as a relative.

He showed the page to security guards who granted him access and allowed him to enjoy a beer with the duo.

One half of Peking Duk, Adam Hyde hailed Mr Spargo as a “legend”.

Speaking to The Guardian he said: "It was probably the most genius, mastermind move that I’ve ever witnessed. It’s crazy. He just did it on the spot, in a second on his phone.

"He told the security guard he was our stepbrother or something, and showed them the Wikipedia page and his ID."

He continued: "We ended up having a bunch of beers with him and he was an absolute legend. He wasn’t a creep or anything. He was like the most normal dude we’ve ever met. That’s what makes it more hilarious."

The duo tweeted a screenshot of the edit alongside an Anchor Man meme reading: “Actually, I’m not even mad that’s amazing.”

They captioned the tweet: “som1 edited our wiki 2 say he was our family. showed security, got in2 the green room and had a beer with the boys..”

Hyde said that his bandmate Reuben Styles took Mr Spargo’s number and said: "We might end up having a couple of beers with him."
