Phil Collins was rushed to hospital after he fell and hit his head.

The 66-year-old singer slipped in his hotel room in the middle of the night and required stitches for a “severe gash” close to his eye.

He was kept in hospital under observation for 24 hours.

Collins' spokesperson confirmed the fall was a result of his “drop foot” and told fans that his remaining Royal Albert Hall dates have been postponed.

A statement on Collins’ Facebook read: “We unfortunately have to announce that Phil Collins’ performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London will be postponed tonight (June 8) and tomorrow (June 9). Phil suffers from ‘drop foot’ as a result of a back operation which makes it difficult to walk. He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair.

“He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe gash on his head close to his eye and is recovering well. He will be kept under observation for 24 hours.

“Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans. He has had a fantastic week at his first shows in 10 years, cannot thank people enough for their warm reaction and is excited to return.”

The famous drummer was three dates into a five night residency at the iconic London venue as part of his Not Dead Yet tour. The remaining dates have been rearranged for November 26 and 27.

Collins’ rep confirmed that he plans to continue his tour on Sunday in Cologne and then Paris before returning to London for his headline performance at BST Hyde Park on June 30.

The accident comes months after he was left with a black eye following a fall in his hotel bathroom, which nearly ruined his comeback announcement.

Speaking to the Standard at the time he said: “I fell in the bathroom. I went to sit down, and in fact instead of sitting down, I went forward. So it’s one of those things. I’m fine, but unfortunately bruising takes a long time to go down.”

Collins has struggled with his health in recent years including hearing issues and a back problem that has left him unable to play the drums for any significant period without experiencing pain.

He underwent surgery on his back in 2015 but was left with a numb right foot as a result.
