Piers Morgan left himself wide open to ridicule after he likened himself to George Clooney.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 52, tweeted a picture of his sunburnt face while wearing black sunglasses and brandishing a beard.

He asked his followers whether he looks more like Clooney or Tom Hanks’ character in Castaway.

He captioned the post: “Clooney? Or Hanks in Castaway?”

Predictably Morgan struggled to find anyone who agreed he looks like Clooney, with many likening him to bedraggled scarecrow Worzel Gummidge, Catweazle the wizard – and “corned beef”.

Others were quick to compare him to his arch nemeses Jeremy Clarkson and Lord Alan Sugar, while some commented on the resemblance to Ricky Gervais’ alter ego David Brent.

One user tweeted: “W*****. In sunglasses.”

Another posted: “Like a wedge of spam in shades pal.”

Some praised his new “rugged” appearance with one writing: “Definitely Hanks! But I’m loving the look!”

Another tweeted: “Piers Morgan looking hot!”

The picture comes hours after Morgan was accused of being “the worst kind of bully” after he questioned Caitlyn Jenner on her sex life during an appearance on Life Stories.

The controversial presenter used a plastic figurine of Olympic champion Bruce Jenner as he asked Caitlyn about her transition: “How does your physique compare now. Obviously ‘certain areas’....?”

Caitlyn snapped back: “See you made a comment there and that is why you would get in trouble. OK? You just said ‘certain areas’. That to a trans person is disrespectful. It is not funny. It is life. It is a very serious part of my life.”

She continued: “I take that very seriously and so out of respect to myself and the community it is not something that you joke about. It is something as I said before...this is serious. You can die over this issue. It is not a joke.”

Morgan was branded “disrespectful” by viewers who said the interview made for a “highly uncomfortable” watch.
