Primal Scream have announced that they will be cancelling a number of their forthcoming dates after Bobby Gillespie’s fall last week.

The British band have tweeted to say that they will not be performing for at least two months as the frontman has been instructed to rest for ‘eight weeks’.

It read: “Primal Scream have been forced to cancel several European and UK shows this summer following Bobby Gillespie’s accident last Thursday night at the Caribana festival, Switzerland.

“Bobby has been instructed to rest for a minimum of 8 weeks which means that unfortunately the following shows are cancelled.”

The statement went on announce that they would be cancelling appearances at Secret Garden Party and Beat Herder, as well as international festivals in Spain, Ireland, France, Sweden and Italy.

Gillespie and his band had lined up a string of dates for this summer to promote their newly-released studio album, Chaosmosis.

The 53-year-old left fans worried when he fell off stage during the band’s set at Swiss festival Caribana last Thursday.

While the star isn’t thought to have suffered any major injuries, he was stretchered away from the site and rushed to hospital.

Fans took to Twitter following the incident to wish the star a speedy recovery, with one person writing:

“Oh s***! Bobby Gillespie just took a nasty looking tumble off the stage! Hope he's ok.”

A fan account tweeted: “Worrying reports about Bobby Gillespie falling off stage during @ScreamOfficial’s set at @caribanafest in Switzerland. Let’s hope he is OK.”
