Pucker up: David Walliams plants a kiss on Russell Brand for a Comic Relief selfie

David Walliams clearly thinks Russell Brand is the nations most loved star.

The 43-year-old comedian was filming a scene from Comic Relief sketch Who's Got What It Takes To Be A National Treasure? - which is set to air on Red Nose Day - when he planted a kiss on Brand's cheek.

Clearly wanting to capture the moment, the Trews host whipped out his phone to take a quick selfie.

As part of the sketch the two comedians will compete against celebrities including Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Katie Price, David Gandy and Robbie Williams in a bid to impress Stephen Fry, Miranda Hart and Sheridan Smith on the judging panel.

Walliams - who recently split from his wife of five years, Lara Stone - said of the sketch: "To make a good Comic Relief sketch you need something special, you need big guest stars and something you can only see on that one day of the year – Red Nose Day. For me, this is hopefully all of those things.

"I’m really excited about this year’s Red Nose Day campaign because it’s a real bumper year for comedy, and the whole reason that I loved Comic Relief at school and beyond was because I loved comedy.

"The point of the evening is to raise money, but unless you’ve got some great comedy that people really want to see, you’re not going to raise as much as you would otherwise."

Comic Relief is on BBC One on Friday March 13.
