Rio Ferdinand has openly discussed his relationship with TOWIE star Kate Wright for the first time, saying that he is finally “happy again”.

The former footballer opened up about his new romance on This Morning, two years after the death of his wife, Rebecca.

After months of speculation about the new couple, Ferdinand confirmed that his relationship with Wright had been a “positive” effect on his life while he tried to overcome his grief.

“I’m happy again, and in a relationship and it’s going well,” he said on Thursday’s show.

Ferdinand said that he had been completely open about the romance with his children Lorenze, 11, Tate, nine and Tia, six.

“The kids are also happy, they deserve to be after going through tragedy in the last few years of their life. There’s not been one stage of going into this relationship where they’ve not been involved,” he said.

“As long as they feel they are involved and in the conversation I think there’s a chance they can reach happiness.”

Ferdinand married Rebecca back in 2009 and she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2014.

She sadly passed away just one year later after discovering that the cancer had spread to her bones.
