Sam Smith has admitted that he needs to work on his love life before he can work on new music.

The Writing’s On The Wall singer told Ellen DeGeneres that he needs to ‘kiss more boys’ before he can pen more songs.

Speaking on the US chat show this week, the 23-year-old reiterated that he was planning to take a break from his career, saying:

“It's actually a really recent decision. This could change. I change my mind all the time, but I kind of decided a few months ago that I need to have a little bit of a break."

He added: “My music is so personal and I need to live my life. I basically need to kiss some more boys so I can write some songs."

When the host told the British singer that the public needed to hear more stories from him, he responded:

“I need to go and make the stories so I can write about them.”

Smith admitted that he was planning to take ‘time out’ from work when he hit the red carpet at the Spectre premiere last month.

Speaking to ET Online, he said: “I've been playing now for three years nonstop.

“And it feels right for me to just go home and live my life - just be a 23-year-old."
