Selfies on his mind: Sam Smith poses with Katy Perry, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian at the VMAs

He may not have stolen the crown for the biggest celebrity selfie, but Sam Smith was totting up his Instagram selfies with famous faces at last night's MTV VMAs.

Despite being a celeb himself the Naughty Boy singer appeared to be star struck and was keen to tally up celeb selfies for his fans on Instagram.

The 22-year-old singer wasn't afraid to ask people to say cheese and started the nights selfie count with Beyonce.

He was seen cuddling up to Queen Bey who looked stunning in a black lacy outfit.

The Brit award winner gushed as he posed for photos with Kim Kardashian - who opted for a very revealing low cut top - captioning the picture: "So good to see you again beautiful @kimkardashian."

Kim took to the stage ahead of Smith's emotional performance of Stay With Me and said: "Sometimes you hear a voice and know it's special. The next performer has one of those voices. Artists to watch nominee, my friend, Sam Smith. He's on piano.'

Last week Smith - as well as Pro Green - was gushing about the reality TV star's beauty.

He told Capital FM: "I was sweating a little bit. She's really sweet. She smells of vanilla!

"She's beautiful and it was just really weird to meet someone like that who knows my music and is a fan of my music. It was really weird."

Despite loosing out to Ed Sheeran for the Best Male Video Award he did manage to bag himself a series of photos with some of the night's biggest celebs.

He posed alongside Katy Perry - who was wearing a denim number in tribute to Britney Spears' outfit at the 2001 VMAs - Miley Cyrus, Iggy Azalea and Kylie and Kendall Jenner.
