Benedict Cumberbatch, the most dateable male celebrity, is charming, has good looks - and now tastes as sweet as chocolate.

The Sherlock star has been recreated out of chocolate. Featuring slicked back hair and dressed for the red carpet in a tuxedo and bow tie, chocolatiers have created a life-size chocolate model of the Sherlock star.

The 38-year-old actor's chocolate doppelganger was created to celebrate the launch of television channel Drama on the new on-demand service uktvplay.co.uk following a national poll which named the Oscar nominated star as Britain’s best looking television drama actor.

Cumberbatch - who is expecting his first child with his wife Sophie Hunter - fought off competition from David Tennant and Idris Elba to take the title.

The impressive chocolate sculpture of Cumberbatch - who was last year immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds after pleading fans bombarded the museum with requests - weighs 40kg and took eight people more than 250 man hours to create.

Lead sculptor Tim Simpson said: "You can't rush perfection. Benedict has such a distinctive look that it was a challenge but a pleasure to recreate him in chocolate. A secret combination of methods ensured we got a great likeness - we're sure his legions of fans will approve!"

Cumberbatch isn’t the first actor to be recreated using food. Earlier this year an edible bust of Dame Maggie Smith’s Downton Abbey character the Dowager Countess of Grantham came to life as a cake complete with a lace ruffle, brooch, and a floral hat.

The chocolate statue of Benedict Cumberbatch will be at Westfield Stratford on Friday April 3.
