A smile – even one like you mean it – isn't enough if you're one the world's top rockers with thousands of fans waiting for you to belt out your best tunes.

So The Killers were forced to cancel their Manchester Arena concert last night just four songs in because their lead singer Brandon Flowers lost his voice.

The Las Vegas band posted on Facebook that they were “so, so sorry” for the abrupt and said they would also be cancelling tonight’s show with plans to reschedule both gigs soon.

Flowers reportedly took a Chinese medical drink three songs in and tried to carry on, but to no avail.

Sarah Vine, working for the Manchester Evening News, was at the concert. She told the newspaper that the band had started well with Mr Brightside, but that Flowers quickly became uncomfortable with performing.

Ms Vine said the crowd “handled it really well”.

"There were a few boos but most people just applauded and made their way home," she said.

A spokesman for the Manchester Arena advised ticketholders to keep their tickets and to contact their point of purchase for further information.
