Former Love Island star Theo Campbell has shared video footage from the aftermath of the champagne cork accident that let him blind in one eye.

The reality star, 28, revealed earlier this week that he lost his sight in his right eye after the cork split it in half.

Campbell, who appeared on the ITV2 dating show in 2017, posted a short clip of himself clutching his eye and made a dark attempt at humour as he pointed out that an onlooker was wearing goggles.

“If only I had that guys goggles [sic],” he wrote as a caption. “Prepared.”

The former 400 metre sprinter was on holiday in Ibiza at the time of the accident.

He broke the news to his social media followers on Tuesday, sharing a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed wearing a bandage over his eye.

“Basically 2 eye surgeries later after a really unfortunate accident, I’ve lost all vision in my right eye as it got split in half, who would have thought a champagne cork would be the end of me…” he wrote.

“But I still have 1 eye left, looking at the bright side of things.”

Campbell thanked his girlfriend Kaz Crossley, who appeared on Love Island in 2018, for “flying out to look after [him]” and asked followers: “If anyone knows where sells cool eye patches let me know.”

Despite the prognosis, he said he felt “hopeful” and doesn’t “want to believe [his] eye is gone forever.”

Crossley, who previously dated fellow Love Island star Josh Denzel, told her Instagram followers that things had been “hard” following the accident but praised her boyfriend for being “so brave and positive.”

Georgia Harrison, who appeared on Love Island alongside Campbell, shared a message of support for the couple on Instagram.

“Love them so much words couldn’t even describe,” she said. “Get well soon and [Kaz] you are the most amazing girlfriend. Thank god for you.”
