Top Gear air date 'moved over competition from Britain's Got Talent'

Top Gear bosses are altering the air date for the revamped motoring show over fears of competition from Britain’s Got Talent, according to reports.

The show – fronted by Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc – was reportedly pushed back to May 22, but it would mean going head-to-head with the first semi-final of the ITV talent show.

A source told the Daily Mirror: “Top Gear is already under intense scrutiny and the last thing they need is to try and launch it against ITV’s most popular show.

“They were gutted when they heard that Top Gear would go head-to-head with Britain’s Got Talent. They’ve pulled a sharp handbrake turn.”

A spokesperson for the show told Standard Online: “We have always said we will launch in May and full scheduling details will be announced in due course.”

The claims come weeks after it was reported that the relationship between Evans and LeBlanc is "deteriorating".

Evans was allegedly angered by LeBlanc's stunt at the Cenotaph which he worried had "damanged" the brand.

The pair later dismissed the claims with LeBlanc calling Evans his "pal".

The Friends actor tweeted: “I'm at war with @achrisevans? That's funny, I thought we were pals.”

The pair will also be joined on the show by racing driver Sabine Schmitz, YouTube star Chris Harris, F1 pundit Eddie Jordan and motoring journalist Rory Reid.
