Tyler Perry has written an open letter about Bobbi Kristina Brown, begging the public to shows some 'respect' and 'decency'.

The actor and filmmaker, who was a close, personal friend of Whitney Houston, published the letter on his Facebook page on Friday.

Admitting that he'd had the late singer on his mind, the 45-year-old urged the public and the media not to speculate about her daughter, who is currently in a hospice.

He wrote: "This morning I woke up with Whitney on my mind. I couldn’t help but think about all that she must have dreamed for her child. I know this was not her dream.

"And as difficult as this time is for the people that love both Whitney and Krissi, what makes it more egregious is the blatant disrespect, lies, and ignorance that are rapidly printed in this awful time."

Perry continued: "For some reason, it has become human nature in our society to look for, seek out, and celebrate darkness, glory in tragedy, and enjoy reading and reporting it. It makes me sad to know that everybody wants to be the first to report something awful."

Another extract from the letter read: "It’s heartbreaking to think that even in a time like this, this child is still not allowed any peace."

Perry is thought to have visited Brown in hospital on numerous occasions and offered his private jet to the family.

Brown has been in a coma since being found face down in a bathtub back in January and is currently surrounded by loved ones at a hospice in Atlanta.
