Vanessa Feltz has been unveiled as the first contestant on this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

The star, who is known for her appearance on the first series of Celebrity Big Brother in which she appeared to have an on-screen breakdown, presents a show on BBC Radio 2.

The Londoner's TV career - which had also included a presenting role on Channel 4's Big Breakfast - stalled after a fake guest scandal that engulfed her ITV programme.

Other names rumoured to be in talks to battle it out for the glitterball trophy on the show this year include rugby player Ben Cohen, designer Julien Macdonald, singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, model Abbey Clancy and Hairy Bikers cook Dave Myers.

Feltz told Radio 2 colleague Zoe Ball she was "inordinately excited".

Appearing on the station's Breakfast Show, she said: "I've got sequins on my lingerie - can I say that? - and I intend to wear nothing but sequins until I get turfed out, which will probably be rather soon, I fear."

She said she wanted a partner who was "virile" but "patient" to help her cope on the dancefloor.
