Victoria Beckham has revealed that the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements are why she finally agreed to a Spice Girls reunion.

The 48-year-old singer last performed with the iconic 1990s group at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics.

Beckham, now a fashion designer, excited fans after she met with the entire band and old manager Simon Fuller at Geri Horner’s house last week.

Having previously shut down the idea of a reunion, the businesswoman admitted the push for female-led movements in Hollywood has inspired her.

She said: “The Time's Up and #MeToo movements have shone a light on how powerful we can be when we work together to bring about change.

"That is incredibly inspiring. My career has always focused on empowering and celebrating women, so the momentum that these movements brought only makes me even more determined and passionate in my beliefs."

The group, comprised of Beckham, Horner, Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton, have confirmed they are working on new projects following their meeting.

A statement was released on behalf of the group.

It read: “We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching-up and reminiscing about the amazing times we spent together. We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls.

“The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together. We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations."
