Amber Heard appears to have fired back at JK Rowling after the author released a statement to defend the casting of Johnny Depp in the Fantastic Beasts sequel.

The US actress, who accused Depp of domestic abuse during their marriage, reposted the former couple’s joint statement on Twitter and insisted that some of her words had been “taken out of context”.

While she didn’t directly reference Rowling, Heard’s tweet was posted just hours after the author shared her statement detailing her reasons for not recasting Depp’s role following the allegations against him.

“For the record, this was our FULL joint statement. To pick&choose certain lines & quote them out of context, is not right.Women, stay strong,” Heard wrote on Twitter.

She then posted her original statement, which read: “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm.

“Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”

Rowling has come under fire for her statement, in which she said she felt “comfortable” to keep Depp in the film based on her “understanding” of the circumstances.

“The agreements that have been put in place to protect the privacy of two people, both of whom have expressed a desire to get on with their lives, must be respected,” she wrote.

“Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.”

Depp was accused of domestic abuse by Heard in 2016 after 16 months of marriage. He has always denied all allegations of abuse.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald is set for release in November 2018.
