David Duchovny is set to release an album titled Hell or Highwater – something he has described as a “dream come true”.

The 54-year-old actor has composed the 12 track album which is out on May 12.

In a statement the Californication star said: "Making this record is a dream come true, but I never had this dream - it's still a shock when I think about how all this music happened.

"What I do know is that I feel these songs represent the truest expression that I've ever been able to achieve and I look forward to sharing it with everyone."

Duchovny is set to star in NBC's period drama Aquarius. Set in the Sixties, Duchovny will play a police man on the hunt for a killer that turns out to be the Manson Family.

The Golden Globe winning actor is also set to reprise his role as FBI agent Fox Mulder alongside Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) in The X-Files.

US network FOX confirmed the news last month when they announced a six-episode run of this summer.
