TV personality Zoe Ball is said to be lined up to join Chris Evans as a new Top Gear presenter.

The 44-year-old apparently impressed BBC producers with her performance during test filming, the Sunday Mirror reported.

"Zoe looks like a certainty after the screen tests," a source told the newspaper.

"She was brilliant down on the race track and she's enthusiastic about cars."

Chris Evans was signed up to head a new team of hosts after Jeremy Clarkson was sacked earlier this year for punching producer Oisin Tymon in a row over food.

His former co-stars Richard Hammond and James May, as well as producer Andy Wilman, then also left the show before signing a deal to front a motoring show for Amazon Prime customers.

No official announcements have been made about Evans' co-presenters.
