Charlotte: I'm a cheapskate

Singer Charlotte Church today insisted she was a cheapskate, but confessed to buying two bottles of champagne for £1,000 "by accident"

The 19-year-old, whose single Crazy Chick failed to reach the number one spot yesterday, said she was careful with her money and rubbished claims that she had blown her multi-million pound fortune on alcohol.

"I kept my trust in place," she told GMTV. "I could have overturned it, but I wanted someone there to be able to say to me 'Stop', because my clothes spending does get a little bit out of hand."

Church admitted she had blown £1,000 on the champagne despite the fact that she does not like the stuff.

"When the woman told me how much it was, I said 'Are you having a laugh?"' she revealed.

The classical singer turned pop star said she was determined to maintain her trust fund in case she never made another penny.

Despite her boozy reputation, the singer said she did not drink all the time or go out any more than anyone else her own age.

"I go out once or twice a week," she said. "I do not think I am excessive, (the Press) have just put me into this stereotype where I am a wild child because it is a good story."

And she said she could not wait for her rugby playing boyfriend Gavin Henson to return from the Lions tour.

"He is back in a week, I am really excited - I have really missed him," she said. "He is a sweetheart."
