Cheryl Cole landed in Los Angeles with her close friend, dancer Derek Hough today, but it was she who showed some fancy footwork.
Immediately confronted by a pack of photographers Cole promptly changed direction, abandoning the man who has helped her recover from a bout of maleria.
The 27-year-old singer has made a good recovery since being struck down with the disease after a trip to Tanzania with Hough, 25.
A source said: "She has just spent a month in bed recovering, so she just needed a change of scenery and a break."
Before leaving, Cole personally thanked the staff at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases at University College London where she was treated.
She is expected to return to her duties as an X Factor judge at the end of next month.
