George Clooney has revealed how he contemplated killing himself because he was in so much pain after injuring himself on a film set.

The 44-year-old Hollywood actor smashed his head on the ground and damaged his spine while filming Syriana, but could not take painkillers because of a family history of addiction.

He had to have several operations.

Clooney said: 'Before surgery it was the most unbearable pain I've been through, literally where you'd go, "Well, you'll have to kill yourself at some point. You can't live like this." '

To compound his misery, his brother-in-law, grandmother and dog all died in the same year.
