Coronation Street producers to go on 'strike'
Coronation Street's backstage production staff are threatening to strike.
The crew are reportedly plotting the mass walk-out over claims they are being "used and abused" and forced to work unsociable hours at the Manchester-based set of the ITV1 soap, which could damage Corrie's tight filming schedule.
After the team were forced to work a multitude of long days and night shoots in recent weeks - to account for a "major storyline" featuring Weatherfield newcomers Michelle Collins and John Michie (Stella Price and Karl Munro) - they vented their anger at a meeting with show bosses.
An insider told the Daily Star: "It got really heated because everyone working backstage is at the end of their tether.
"We've been working our arses off and it's just getting worse. There is so much demand on us, it's like we're just being used and abused. The cast are doing long days too but we don't get paid anywhere near what they do."
According to the source, 'Coronation Street' production controller Gail Kennett sent a memo to staff following the meeting telling them they could either apply for flexible working or a strict 40-hour week.
An ITV spokeswoman said: "We routinely hold meetings with the 'Corrie' crew. There has been no discussion of strike action."
