Davina McCall's chat show lost a quarter of its audience in the space of a week - while The Apprentice proved a ratings hit

Just 2.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the second Davina show on BBC1 last night - 800,000 down on its 3.5 million debut.

Her guests included actor Pierce Brosnan and presenter Patrick Kielty.
Meanwhile, The Apprentice was a winner on BBC2, with 3.6 million viewers tuning in for the opening episode.

The ratings were almost double those of the first series opener, which was watched by two million people.

Last year's final, which saw Tim Campbell crowned The Apprentice, had 3.8 million viewers.

"We are delighted with the success of The Apprentice, which has picked up where the last series left off in terms of ratings," a BBC spokeswoman said.

"As for Davina, the audience is down on the first week but we are pleased with the show. We are giving it time to grow."

Guests on next week's Davina include TV chef Gordon Ramsay, actor Neil Morrissey and Footballers' Wives star Zoe Lucker.
