The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are developing “a bunch” of projects with Netflix including documentaries and a film, according to a senior executive at the streaming giant.

The firm’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria told a Hollywood event the couple’s projects include “a couple of unscripted things” and a series.

She said: “They actually have a bunch in development”.

The film is thought to be an adaptation of the romantic novel Meet Me at the Lake by Canadian writer Carley Fortune, the Times reported.

The couple bought the rights to the book, set in Toronto where Meghan Markle lived while starring in legal drama Suits, last year.

They signed their contract with Netflix four years ago in a deal thought to be worth $100 million. Their documentary series Harry & Meghan was a success for the firm but other documentaries Live to Lead and Heart of Invictus did not do as well.

It comes after their firm Archewell Productions lost another senior member of staff when Bennett Levine became the latest employee to leave following the departures of internal content head Ben Browning and marketing boss Fara Taylor.

Head of audio Rebecca Sananes, who worked with the duchess on her Spotify podcast, quit in December 2022 after 18 months at the firm.

Spotify announced last year it was terminating its deal with the couple who made 13 hours of podcasts in two-and-a-half years.

The Duchess previously said she and Prince Harry wanted to produce work that “make people feel something” and “feel a sense of community”.

She told Variety Magazine: “But we have so many exciting things on the slate. I can’t wait until we can announce them. We’re just really proud of what we’re creating and my husband is loving it too.”
