Eva Mendes has shared a poignant social media post hours after her husband Ryan Gosling addressed Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Oscars snub.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the 49-year-old actress shared a short clip of American singer Lola Falana discussing how the mind has the power to “negotiate”, while the soul does not.

Mendes said she “loves” the hitmaker’s words, before asking in her caption: “Who gets this as deeply as I do? Dios mío [my god], does my mind like to negotiate. It's exhausting!”

In the clip, Falana says: “You cannot lie because the only thing that can touch a mass of people is the soul, cause the soul can't lie.

“Now when you start to deal with the mind, the mind will negotiate. It's like yeah, that's why they say your first instinct is correct.”

Adding: “Your first time something your soul says don't do that, then after a while the mind gets lazy or gets busy or whatever and it starts to negotiate and it says now look you don't have to pay that no mind.

“Why don't you try so and so next thing you know you're in trouble, so my first instinct is what I feel and that's about it. It's always moment to moment, that's why I like it so much, it's just right there, you can taste and touch it.”

Mendes confirmed in 2022 that she had married Gosling. The pair met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 and have welcomed two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, nine, and Amada Lee, eight.

Her post comes after Gosling spoke about his disappointment that Barbie director Gerwig and star Robbie were snubbed in two major categories during the Oscars nominations.

The actor, who was nominated for his supporting role as Ken in the box office juggernaut, said he was “so happy” for co-star America Ferrera who received a nod for best supporting actress for her performance as Gloria.

Gerwig was snubbed for a best director nomination, but was named alongside her husband Noah Baumbach for best adapted screenplay while Robbie lost out on a best actress nomination but was recognised for best picture as a producer.

“I am extremely honoured to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films,” Gosling said in a statement shared with US outlets.

“And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honoured and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.

“But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film.

“No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius.”

Gosling described it as an “understatement” to say he is disappointed that Gerwig and Robbie were not nominated in their respective categories.

“Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history.

“Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees,” he added.
