The actress strikes a provocative pose as she imitates the character who was made famous by Liza Minnelli in 1972.

Gillian, who is famous for her role as Cathy in EastEnders  is currently appearing in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

She told Hello! magazine that she feels comfortable playing a role, but is still getting used to showing her body off in skimpy costumes.

The 53-year-old actress, who went on to appear in The Bill, said: 'When you’re acting, it’s all written down for you.

'With something like Strictly, it’s just me out there, and you feel vulnerable and open to criticism.'

She added: 'I love musicals – I was brought up watching people like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, so I’m hoping I’ll think I’m Cyd Charisse when I’m on the dance floor.'

Gillian will compete against a diverse range of stars, including Rachel Stevens, Jessie Wallace, Lisa Snowdon and John Sergeant.

The live contest of the programme's sixth series begins next week.

The actress quit her role as Sergeant Nikki Wright in The Bill in June to spend more time with her 16-year-old daughter who was seriously injured in a car crash last November.

The full interview is in Hello! magazine which is out today.
