Planet Earth, the series of Celebrity Big Brother featuring George Galloway impersonating a cat, and Life on Mars have all been nominated for a Bafta TV award.

BBC documentary series Planet Earth, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, has been shortlisted for a Pioneer Audience Award for a second consecutive year.

The award is for shows that have helped define TV in 2006 by winning critical approval and capturing the public's imagination.

It is the only title at the Bafta Television Awards ceremony which is voted for by the public.

The other three nominees are Dragons' Den, the Vicar of Dibley Christmas Special and The Royle Family - The Queen of Sheba.

All six shows were on the BBC except Celebrity Big Brother, which was on Channel 4.

Members of the public were invited to nominate programmes at the beginning of this year.

Recommendations were debated by the Pioneer Audience Award jury, chaired by Ash Atalla, producer of The Office, and whittled down to six.

Now TV fans are being asked to vote for this year's winner online at www.obsessedwith.tv.

Planet Earth series producer Alastair Fothergill said: "Planet Earth was a mammoth task for all of us that worked on the series.

"It took over four years to make and involved filming in over 200 locations in 62 countries worldwide.

"We are all delighted that the results of all our hard work seemed to have really brought pleasure to so many people here in the UK."
