GMTV presenter Kate Garraway is to marry her partner Derek Draper, she announced today

She met the Labour spin doctor turned psychotherapist in October and they began dating shortly afterwards.

Her GMTV co-host Ben Shephard broke the news to viewers this morning.

Garraway, 37, showed off a diamond engagement ring.

She said: "I obviously rang and told my parents. The relief was just audible - it was, 'Thank you Lord, she's not going to be on the shelf!' Seriously though, it's great news and we're very excited."

Draper, also, 37, proposed in February during a romantic break to Cairo.

But it was only yesterday that the couple decided to announce the news.

Garraway joked: "I wanted to quickly get the announcement out before Derek sobered up this morning and panicked and regretted his decision."
