Emmerdale's Katie Sugden takes her life in her hands as she tries to mollify her gun-wielding kidnapper.

As police negotiate for her release outside evil detective Nick Henshall's flat, Katie, played by Sammy Winward, tries her own more direct approach - with a gun pointed directly at her head.

Terrified and desperate, she attempts to reason with Henshall (Michael McKell), insisting he cannot really love her if he is making her suffer so severely.

Outside Katie's ex-husband Andy, played by Kelvin Fletcher, is also making an impassioned plea for freedom, but this just makes Henshall even angrier.

The gripping storyline plays out over two episodes tonight on ITV1 at 7pm and 8pm.

A shot is heard inside the flat, leaving Andy - and viewers - wondering who survives.
