BRICK LANE FESTIVAL

Fifty-thousand people are expected to head for the curry quarter on Sun 12 Sep, but London's biggest end-of-summer party isn't just about the food.

There will be history tours, live bands and DJs representing the different cultures of the area - from Somalia to Bangladesh - will perform on a stage in Allen Gardens and there's a wonderful family atmosphere.

There is plenty to amuse kids, including face-painting and a funfair.

Brick Lane, Allen Gardens & Buxton Street, E1 (020-7655 0906). Sun 12 Sep, noon-6.30pm, free.
