It's probably one award he could have happily lived without but Hugh Grant has topped a poll of disgraced celebrities.

The actor scooped first place for his encounter with prostitute Divine Brown ten years ago. He beat competition from heroin addict Pete Doherty, unwitting porn star Paris Hilton and footballer Wayne Rooney.

Also making the top ten, compiled by entertainment website iVillage, were reformed cocaine addicts Daniella Westbrook and Angus Deayton, celebrity shoplifter Winona Ryder, actors Leslie Grantham and Robert Downey Jr, and singer George Michael. A spokeswoman said: 'A-listers are often brought low by lust, but what makes this the daddy of scandals is that it was just so unlikely. Mr Grant, we salute you.'
