Anna Friel nearly forgot her lines when a spectator threw up over fellow members of the audience during a performance of Breakfast At Tiffany's.

Retch-fast at Tiffany's: Anna says she kept on singing

The sickly audience member vomited from the upper balcony of the Haymarket Theatre all over six people sitting below as Friel was halfway through a song.

The former Brookside actress, 33, admitted that she nearly fluffed her lines because of all the noise.

But she proved to be a true professional and carried on as those involved in the incident were ushered out of the auditorium to be cleaned up.

Speaking afterwards to Smooth Radio, Friel said she had been a bit annoyed at first — until she realised what had happened.

"I thought it was latecomers who shouldn't have been allowed in," she said. "I carried on singing but almost lost my way as there was such a noise coming from the seats. I almost lost it, but am glad I kept my concentration." The six victims sitting underneath the balcony returned to their seats after the interval.

The culprit also managed to recover in time to return for the second half of the performance.

Friel has received rave reviews for her performance in the adaptation of the Truman Capote novella, which runs until January.

She strips for one scene as Holly Golightly — the role made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film of the book — a move which prompted a ban on the audience taking photos of her in the nude.
