Michael Jackson is to release a single in aid of Hurricane Katrina relief, it has emerged.

He has penned a song, From The Bottom Of My Heart, which he plans to record within two weeks, his spokeswoman said.

It will be the troubled star's first foray into the public eye since he was dramatically cleared of child sex abuse in June.

He fled the US after the four-month trial and has been lying low in Bahrain.
Jackson, 47, will ask other stars to join him on the project.

"It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in the Gulf Region of my country," he said.

"My heart and prayers go out to every individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering caused by this tragedy.

"I will be reaching out to others within the music industry, to join me in helping to bring relief and hope to these resilient people who have lost everything."

His spokeswoman, Raymone Bain, said the singer hoped to rekindle the success of We Are The World, which he wrote and produced in 1985, raising millions of dollars for aid to Africa.

The new single will be recorded on 2 Seas Records, a label owned by Prince Abdulla Hamad Alkhalifa of Bahrain.

All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
